Primarily a watercolorist, Ms. Laudone Harley works figuratively with shapes and spots of color in the tradition of Bonnard, Vuillard and Sargent. In that way she endeavors to integrate the decorative with the authority of human emotion. The subtlety of watercolor draws the viewer in close, and its seeming ephemerality is evocative of memory. The connection is at once intimate and fragile yet powerful. The modesty of the medium and the ordinariness of the subject serve to heighten its emotional universality. Recognizing the humor, the joy, the travail, the melancholy – the spectrum of our condition -- the viewer is asked to consider that, while we are alone, we are profoundly connected to each
other by experience and empathy.

Recent Exhibitions: Solo Exhibition entitled “Chasing History” at the University of Connecticut Stamford Art Gallery 2010 (over 40 watercolors and mixed media pieces).   Group Shows –  ARTFIELDS 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016; Piccolo Spoleto Juried Exhibition: 2019, 2017 --Award for Best Painting; 2016, 2015, 2013; Carolina's Got Art 2015 Juried Exhibition (Elder Gallery, Charlotte, NC); South Carolina Watermedia Society (Member of Excellence), SCWS Annual Exhibition- 2016, 2014, 2013, 2012, Awards; SCWS Traveling Exhibition 2016, 2013, 2012; Charleston Artist Guild (CAG) Exhibiting Member; CAG Signature/Member Exhibitions: 2018 -- Second Place Award for Painting; 2017 -- First Place Award for Painting;  2016, 2015, 2013; Wells Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition 2011-2014; Westport CT Historical Society, 2011; Flinn Gallery, Greenwich CT 2010 (suite of watercolors).
